Originally, the painting was commissioned for the Santa Maria Novella – Florence’s first great basilica – which required an artwork using the popular Christian theme of Nativity. A tempera on panel, it is 111 cm x 134 cm and housed in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, alongside so many other priceless works of art. Sandro Botticelli painted The Adoration of the Magi in 1475/6. Famous for being one of the great Florentine, Early Renaissance masters, Botticelli was part of what became a golden age in art history.
